Project Summary

Fences around school and gate are important for the safety of the students. The main purpose is to prevent unauthorized people to enter school premises which is one of the threats to student’s safety. Another one is to prevent students from going out the school campus anytime they want that can result into cutting classes and engaging with vices like drinking liquor, gambling, and smoking. It’s sad to note that in the previous years, some students were involved in the said vices.

It’s high time to address this issue before it will become worst. That’s why with the project SAFE, these concerns will be solved gradually. Through this project, there will be a sound mind for the parents and school authorities. A school with a great security fencing system would stop the parent’s fears and allow them to feel confident enough that their children are in good hands.

The idea of completing the perimeter fence and putting up the gate need to be addressed. The proponent must do his/her best in planning things to consider this as one of the top priorities.

The cooperation of school, faculty and staff, stakeholders, school partners and all learners are working together for the realization of this project. Assistance from this group through donations and manpower will make this project a successful one. In this open communication and support towards one another, the project will be done in a span of five months from January to May during Brigada Eskwela and with an estimated budget of Php. 140, 000.00.

Thus, Project SAFE would like to address and support the following:

a. keeps learners on campus where they are safe

b. protects the learners from running onto streets that can cause an accident;

c. keeps intruders off campus and away from the learners;

d. prevents learners from cutting and escaping from their classes to avoid drop out.

e. controls unauthorized departure of students who may be involved in anti-social activities

during school hours.

Project Background

In the previous years, ISAT- Cabannungan Annex had an unfinished perimeter fence and there was no main gate. With this, the learners skipped classes, left school early or simply leave without permission. Moreover, learners were free to go out anytime they want even during their classes. Some of them had cut classes for varied reasons such as gambling and drinking liquor which had a great effect on their academic performance. Since they commit in anti-social activities, they prefer to stop studying. It is for this reason that the school had an increasing dropout rate for three consecutive years. In 2016, the dropout rate is 0.38%; in 2017 it’s 1.67%; in 2018, it’s 2.82%.

The reason why learners can just go out anytime they want even during class hours is because of the absence of gate and unfinished fence. When their peers invite them to go somewhere else for their own reasons they are free to go outside the campus. Instead of attending their classes, they are engaged in doing other things which totally distract their focus in their studies. Their parents know that they are in the school campus but sad to note that they aren’t. During PTA conferences, this issue was brought out by the school management to inform them regarding the standing/ performance of their children. The school authorities explained that they can’t control all of these since there were many exits and entrances. Open forum was made and it was suggested that to prevent the learners in escaping/ cutting classes, there should be a gate and the perimeter fence should be finished to hold the learners inside the campus. A survey was also made to hear the voice of the learners which aims to provide the best in academe and learning environment for them. Based on the result, most of them stated that the school must have a complete fence and gate for it is one of the main reasons why some learners escape/cut classes is because they are free to leave the campus anytime.

This alarming issue must be addressed as soon as possible to avoid learners from dropping out. Project SAFE is indeed a big help for the school, for the learners, for the teachers, and for all the stakeholders. Furthermore, this project is also for the safety of the learners and the teachers.
