Cook fest through “Mother and Child” tandem in Grades 4 to 6
Nutrition Month is an annual celebration focused on nutrition education and information campaign. The event is conducted every year during the month of July to reiterate the importance of making good food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits to learners.
As a gesture of showing our support to the government’s program, the Sanchez Mira West Central Elementary School spearheaded a Joint and School-Based Nutrition Month Program with the Centro 2 Barangay council last July 31,2019 with the theme, “Kumain ng Wasto at Maging Aktibo…Push Natin ‘to”. The school practices healthy activities like continuous feeding activity and sustainable Gulayan sa Paaralan where stakeholders-the parents help one another to take fresh vegetables in the school backyard to feed the severely malnourished children. Gulayan sa Bahay is another profitable and productive joint endeavor of the school and the community to help every family sustain feeding activities to their children by planting vegetables in their respective abode.
Among our contested activities are the following: Search for A-1 Child and Parent-son/daughter tandem in Cookfest. Participants of the search for A-1 Child were from the Kindergarten to Grades 3 while Grades 4 to 6 were the contenders in cookfest. Zumba for a Cause is also done to raise fund for the improvement of the Gulayan sa Paaralan.
Parents of the pupils were invited to witness the presentations of their children during the program. The program started with a doxology led by the select Grades 5 and 6 with Mrs Marlyn Macalma also led a prayer. Followed by the national anthem led by Miss Norma Pagayatan. Next, was the introductory and welcome speech given by Hon. Andrew L. Pagayatan, barangay captain.
Mr. Joefrey D. Cacatian, the school principal shared his thought about the event, he discussed some tips and ideas to pupils and parents on how to become healthy and what are the right foods to eat. After the message, it was immediately proceeded by the different presentations given by each class starting from Kindergarten to Grade 6. In between the presentations is the awarding of certificate of award and participation for the winners and participants of the competitions.
Atasha Leinne Obispo, a grade 3 pupil won as an A-1 Child. The parent –child of Grade 4 class , represented by Mrs. Nida A. Belcina and Aileen Belcina was adjudged champion.
Other winners in the cookfest were Mrs. Dianalyn Bareng and Angelo Bareng from Grade 5, 2nd Place ; Mrs. Sanilyn Cerenado and Janice Cerenado from Grade 6 class won 3rd Place, respectively.
The culmination program was a simple yet meaningful activity. Intermission numbers were all designed to disseminate information about health and nutrition.
Nurturing the children’s mind and heart about health and nutrition is the real aim of the annual celebration. This annual event continues to educate not only the pupils but everyone. All groups are concerned for this purpose because every segment of the society need education on health and nutrition.
