Barrio Tucalan (Nicolas Agatep) existed before Barrio Mcacatabang became a town in honor of the late Mayor Nicolas Agatep. Rafael Sinon took the initiative to lead his people to be more efficient in their own way of life.
Nicolas Agatep's main source of income is farming and fishing. Previously, their only mode of transportation was their two feet (kadilakad), as they called it. At the time, life is very simple for them. However, Rafael Sinon felt that something was missing. As time passed, Zacarias Paculdar succeeded Rafael Sinon as Tenyente del Barrio. Paculdar recognized the importance of education for the people.
Despite this, some people valued education, as evidence by the fact that they hiked nearly 2 kilometers from their homes to school in the town proper. Paculdar and a group of concerned citizens intended to build a school. They were able to construct a structure, but it was never used due to the insurgency. People's hopes were realized only after the terms of Barangay Captain Antonio Sinon and Atty. Orlino Agatep as mayor were completed.
That was in 1990-1991. The school is named after his late father, Nicolas C. Agatep, Sr. The school building was built with Bayanihan funds and materials donated by local officials. It began with 30 students in Grades 1 and 2. Mrs. Filipina T. Alvarez was the first teacher in this school. After how many years it reached the Grade 3 and Grade 4 combination classes.
The school is one of the youngest schools in Lasam. It was founded in 1994. Now, the school is composed of eight teachers and headed by a Head Teacher, offering Kinder to Grade 6 curriculum. It is situated along the highway of Nicolas Agatep, Municipality of Lasam, Cagayan with the school ID, 102772. It is 2 kilometers away from the Municipal Hall. It has 1.9 kilometers away from Lasam Centarl School, the nearest public elementary, and where the Division Sub- Office situated. It has 1.5 kilometers away from Lasam Academy, a private school, and 2.5 kilometwes to WCSAT, secondary school, using single motors and other vehicles.
