SYMBOLISM

A pearl buried inside a tightly-shut shell is practically worthless. Government information is a pearl, meant to be shared with the public in order to maximize its inherent value.

The Transparency Seal, depicted by a pearl shining out of an open shell, is a symbol of a policy shift towards openness in access to government information. On the one hand, it hopes to inspire Filipinos in the civil service to be more open to citizen engagement; on the other, to invite the Filipino citizenry to exercise their right to participate in governance.

This initiative is envisioned as a step in the right direction towards solidifying the position of the Philippines as the Pearl of the Orient – a shining example for democratic virtue in the region.

WORKING TOGETHER TOWARDS QUALITY EDUCATION AMIDST PANDEMIC

Learning has always been an important part of human culture, and it is also a survival tool. There are numerous advantages to learning, and are vital in making the world a better place to live to live in.

Even though we are in the midst of a pandemic, education has not ceased to bring the best out of its system. This is why educational activities still happen, as they are an essential component of education.

Brigada Eskwela is one of the activities that brings together volunteers to assist one another as a community in completing a specific task without expecting or asking for anything in return. This ignites the spirit of Bayanihan within the community's people, parents, alumni, civic groups, local businesses, non-government organizations, teachers, students, and individuals who volunteer their time and skills to repair school buildings and facilities in time for school opening.

In addition to this, in response to the Hamon: Bawat Bata Bumabasa issued through DepEd Memorandum No. 173, s.2019, the External Partnerships Service has committed to make every learner a reader by engaging partners and stakeholders to promote the culture of reading. This is a nationwide reading movement for the Filipino children and will serve as platform to synergize efforts and resources to address education-related challenges especially on literacy and numeracy. In accordance to this, Nicolas Agatep has its project "Strengthening Mathematical and Reading Techniques (SMART)'' that aims to improve math achievements and promote make every learner a reader.

NAES VIRTUAL GRADUATION

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Class of 2021 did not have the opportunity to publicly hold their diploma, take photos with friends, or spend one last day at their beloved Alma Mater. The department, on the other hand, found ways to virtually extend the celebrations by utilizing Google Meet, video technology, and social media platforms to bring graduation to all graduates and parents.

Everyone realized that education still exists because the pandemic did not prevent the department from celebrating students' achievements and recognizing parents' support and sacrifices for their children's education during this time of pandemic. This year, our 25 graduates and parents overcame a significant challenge as Nicolas Agatep Elementary School hosted its first virtual graduation.
