HISTORY OF MALASIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Malasin Elementary School is the only non-central school found in the Poblacion of the Municipality of Claveria, South-Western part of Barangay Centro VII. It is a highly effective, God-fearing, value oriented, environment –friendly institution. It was established in the year 1970 with the collaborative efforts of the community headed by Solferino Agra Sr, the Teniente del Barrio.
Just after the creation of the barangay, the Malasin community wished to establish their own learning institution. This challenged Solferino Agra Sr. to donate his lot to Barrio Council of Malasin who in turn donated it to the government through the Department of Education represented by Malasin Primary School. With lots nos. 1910, 1875, 1916 and 1915 as a start efforts were made by the people of Malasin to have this big initiative work out. Other benevolent donors like Josefina Martinez (Lot No. 1917) and Hermenegildo Agbayani (Lot. No. 1914) donated their own lot the school was established with an initial area of 2, 379 square meters.
Malasin Primary School started having Grade I and Grade II classes only with Mrs. Isabel Trumata and Ms. Fuentes as the pioneer teachers occupied the camarin of Zanjera Educar at first but later moved at the Marcos Type Building constructed by barangay officials through the initiative of the Brgy. Captain Nicholas Balintec. The materials of the building were requested from Congressman Ligot and Governor Dupaya and materials used were delivered for two consecutive trips which still came from Manila as requested by the former Brgy. Captain Solferino Agra, Sr. and his kagawads.
In the year 1998, Grade III class was organized and consequently made into a complete primary school the following year which stayed temporarily at the stage of the school. The two additional classes occupied a make-shift building at first until a Cariňo building was constructed in year 2000. Enrolment boomed that gave rise to the opening of Grade 5 class. It finally became a complete elementary school in 2002 with Mrs. Irma Aguinaldo as the Teacher In-Charge, thereby named Malasin Elementary School. Because of increasing number of enrolment, the school staff made initiative to request benevolent donors of adjacent lots for the construction of a one-room GMA building in 2003. On August 2003, Leticia Leaῆo Vda. De Sunga donated Lot. No. 1913 for the school with an area of 233 square meters. It was November 2003 when Mrs. Aguinaldo signed the acceptance of the lot donation (Lot No. 1911) of the late Potenciano Suguitan through his wife Catalina Nagtalon Suguitan with an area of 208 square meters. Another two-room Philip Morris Building was constructed in 2006. The second floor of the GMA Building was completed in 2009 together with the construction of the Administration Building. A year after (2010), the Pre-school building was constructed.
The PTA was aware of the limited space of the school where it could conduct necessary programs and activities particularly on area concerning garden and playground. It was timely that the owner of the lot owned by the heir of Jaime Bulusan adjacent to the school was looking for a buyer. It was the initiative of the PTA headed by Mr. Jesse Tangonan and the teaching staff that the procurement of a lot (Lot No. 1912) with an area of 341 sq. m. at the North-Western part of the school was made possible on October 2015.
At present, the school, with a school ID 102614, has eight academic classrooms four of which were funded by the DepEd, two rooms by the Philip Morris (CAVAPPED), the initial two Marcos-Type now replaced by the PTCA rooms and an administrative building which serves as an Office catering 194 pupils from Centro VII and its feeder barangay Centro VIII. There are eight educationally competent, committed and dedicated regular permanent teachers including a permanent Kindergarten teacher with the headship of a school principal who facilitates the pupils’ needs in the school. With continuing partnership and collaborative efforts among stakeholders of education, delivery of quality education in this school will not be far beyond attainment.
