BY MRS. ELSA A. ACUÑA, MT1
This action research aimed to use contextualized worksheets (MTB-MLE) in teaching to increase the mastery level of Grade II pupils of Cabaritan Elementary School for the S.Y. 2015-2016 particularly on identifying and explaining single repeating patterns, determining the next term in the group sequence, finding and completing pattern according to attributes, shapes, size, color and orientation and teaching and writing time in minutes including a.m. and p.m. using analog clock and digital clock.
Before the conduct of the study, pretest showed that the pupils had already minimal knowledge about the topics. They already had ideas about the concept to be taught because related topics were possibly taken in previous lessons or some of the questions given were related to their previous experiences. But mean percentage showed that the knowledge possessed by the pupils were not yet enough to understand fully the concept. result showed that mastery or performance level of the pupils was at "no mastery level" which can be increased by the use of contextualized worksheets supplemented by cooperative learning activities like supplementing concrete materials, giving group activities, showing group works to the class, explaining processes, giving extensive examinations, homework and relating topics to pupils' everyday experiences.
Results revealed that the use of worksheets based on the mother tongue of the learners, which supplemented by cooperative learning approach was very effective as shown by the increased on the mastery levels of the pupils. The t-test result also showed that there is a significant difference between the pretest and the posttest conducted and it is significant at <.05 two tailed levels of significance.
