I am honored to be a part of the amazing Denver Green School team, teaching fifth-grade math. It is a privilege to be a part of the dynamic learning environment that empowers young minds to grow and flourish. The dedication to equitable education and belief in its transformative power fuels my excitement for this journey with both students and families.

My journey into the world of education was shaped by my own background. Emerging from a low-income community and being raised by a single mother, I witnessed firsthand the incredible strength and determination required for my mom to earn her degree and provide for our family. Her unwavering dedication pulled us out of poverty, demonstrating the life-changing prospects of education. This inspired a fervent passion for education and its potential to empower individuals to reach their fullest potential.

Joining the 2022 Teach For America corps was a natural step, allowing me to combine personal experiences with a desire to help foster a brighter future for the next generation. Every child deserves access to a high-quality education that opens doors and expands horizons.

In our fifth-grade math class, I am committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where each student feels valued and encouraged, striving to make math not only understandable but also enjoyable, nurturing a lifelong love for learning. Through engaging activities, thoughtful discussions, and collaborative projects, we will explore the world of numbers and problem-solving together.

I was born in Queens, New York and spent my formative years living 45 minutes north of New York City.  As a first-generation immigrant, my parents placed a heavy emphasis on education being a gateway to opportunity.  I was fortunate enough to have teachers who continually invested in my success and instilled in me a passion for learning.

For the past 15 years, I have been a practicing attorney.  I began my legal career as a federal public defender in San Diego. After spending over 3 years zealously advocating for those who are systematically oppressed, my husband and I were fortunate to get the opportunity to live in Sao Paulo, Brazil.  I worked for a non-governmental organization focused on human rights.  I was also immensely fortunate to travel across South America exploring the rich cultures and delectable cuisines.

After 23 apartments spread across 9 cities, my husband and I finally decided to settle in Denver 7 years ago after my first son was born. We now have three active little boys who continually make life an adventure!  Since moving to Denver, I have primarily worked in the area of civil rights and indigent criminal defense.

This is my second year at DGS and my first year teaching 5th grade.  It is my mission to instill in your children the love of learning. My hope is to share with them the importance of curiosity, perseverance, and empathy.  I am excited for each one of them to bring their own perspectives to our community.  I also recognize that you as their parents and guardians are the engines behind their growth.  I am committed to working in partnership with you on your child’s learning journey.

I was born and raised in Centennial, Colorado, but have always wanted to travel and explore the world.  I remember seeing a picture of the Japanese Temple of the Golden Pavilion, Kinkaku-ji,  in my 6th grade history book and thinking, "I want to go there."  I started my journey by moving to Seattle for college, majoring in International Studies with an emphasis in foreign language.  I studied abroad in Austria whereI got to learn German and travel around Europe.  After graduating, I was accepted into the Japanese Exchange and Teaching program and moved to Sendai, Japan for two years, where I taught English conversation at a local high school. From there, I moved to Mexico for three years and taught a variety of ages at a Language School, then became an elementary homeroom teacher at private English schools for two years.  I finally returned to Colorado and have been here ever since, teaching amazing multilingual children from around the world.  I truly love supporting students with their acquisition of English while learning about who they are and their culture.  I look forward to meeting this year's group of fabulous 5th graders!  (And if you're wondering, I did get to see the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto, Japan!)
