This gallery is a live resource being created by the participants of the Newham Standing Citizens' Assembly.
This is a space where we can explore personal responses to the themes and perspectives as we move through the Assembly process.
It is an opportunity for us to draw on 15 minute Neighbourhoods and get a sense different parts of Newham so you can put yourself in the shoes of people living in those neighbourhoods.
You are invited to add your personal responses through whatever creative media you choose.

Newham Neighbourhood Walking Tours
Barking Road Tour
"Places of worship and the church has mixed use. Good to see building used for multiple services"
"This part of Barking road is between GreenGate and Boleyn. I don’t particularly like this area because the road:
1. It’s dangerous for cyclists
2. Cause damage to car tyres"
"Not a good sight. Bin overflowing. This was just by the bus stop near the Boleyn junction"
"GreenGate medical centre is situated in GreenGate area of Barking road’s junction in Plaistow area"
"Another convenient facility on Barking road, Boleyn is the Nightingale orthodontist clinic "
"East Ham leisure centre, the Town Hall, a library, a secondary school and East Ham College are within a buzzing high street. "It’s in easy reach by public transport"
"Cyclists on pavement. I noticed the stretch of Barking road from Canning Town to East Ham didn’t have cycle lanes in some areas especially around GreenGate where cars were parked on either side of the road"
"Police station. I like the presence of the police station"
Recycling bins in Barking road, Boleyn.
Location is convenient as it’s in residential areas and the pavement is wider"
"Barking road, Green Gate. What I particularly didn’t like with these set ups is that the pedestrian paths are narrow. Not helped by the presence of a telephone box"
Green Street Tour
"Need to utilise this space and need to make attractive"
"This space could be used as a children's play area"
"Need to organise this market in modern aspects"
"This station gate is not used at the moment, therefore travellers use the front gate which is in front of the road (green st). I think this is causing a risk of accessibility"
"What are the uses of this blocked road in park road, cant this be used for other purposes"
"This place is not properly organised"
"Most of the open spaces in green street are disorganised (benches, bins, postbox are blocking the accessibility)"
"Blocking the accesibility of footpaths"
"Telephone booth – basically not in use but seriously blocking the access. Removing this surely help accessibility"
"Extending the footpath – good work"
"Shopping centre: footpath needs widening"
"Traffic lights not working - This has been causing a lot of accidents around the bend"
"Local underground station. Shabby appearance, needs update/repair. No disabled access from platform street and vice versa."
"Car park above Queen's Market, for customers only. Well maintained and reasonable charges."
"Access to excellent transport links"
"Hamara Ghar Building: utilised as a home for the elderly and a community centre on occasion. Very large building with potential to be used as a youth centre/youth hub."
"Queen's Market is a large market but only has two food trucks with limited choice and variety"
"Well connected lines"
"Pub neighbouring Queen's Market - this is the only pub in the area."
"Post box near Queen's Market. Great location but it looks dirty."
"Rubbish on the pavement is a normal sight and this should be properly managed"
"Front garden of a house on Green Street. Many properties like this and the Council should take action - the residents should be told to keep the front of their properties clean and tidy or pay a fine."
"Are vendors permitted to have produce displays so far out on the public footpath? The vendors should be responsible for clearing the rubbish or pay a fine"
"Old phone box. Unclear if it still serves a purpose and could be removed."
"Market on Green Street. The market is easily accessible by various bus routes in Newham and next to Upton Park underground. It serves the needs of local communities offering cheap affordable food and services compared to that provided in the shops and restaurants along the whole of Green Street. The market will attract more consumers outside Newham after regeneration. No leisure centres or community facilities or places of worship were observed in my tour of Green Street. The street lacks a lining of trees and green spaces which would make it further attractive to local people and tourists"
"Green Street is the beating heart of the commercial and retail sector in the east and west Newham. It boasts a range of shops from fast food take –a- way eateries to high end clothing & jewellery shops. Bottom middle photo shows a new shopping mall providing a different image of the ‘traditional’ Street shopping. There is a local library which is not adequately resourced. Besides the library, there is no access to Council services"
"Just off Green Street, these photos illustrate the unattractive image of Newham. Many tourists park their cars in neighbouring streets. Hopefully this is not the image that will stick in their minds when they leave Newham! Pedestrianisation of Green Street may benefit local communities and local businesses"
"Green Street has no cycle lanes, it is extremely congested and particularly dangerous for cyclists delivering food from the vast range of fast-food outlets. Spaces along Green Street (bottom second photo) could be better utilised for local residents living near houses off Green Street"
Royal Docks Tour
"Pontoon Dock Really nice looking area. Transport DLR bus routes, cycle lane"
"Go past fishguard way that’s where the Harland and wolf gates were originally over two bridges. Very good view of city airport runway"
"A really beautiful old building was once a busy station and museum now being renovated"
"This looks really useful for the community also smashing playground for the younger children"
"I like the idea of pop up shops one day a week in certain parts of this walk"
"Just fast food shops. The green building was once a pub dubbed in the Newham record as Newhams must haunted pub"
"Really nice to have the park and open space opposite the community centre (although the park needs a face lift)"
"Lovely open space but no lighting for night and no one using it"
"So great to have a youth zone - shame it looks really uninviting from the outside- almost like a prison"
"Really decent park space but not being used"
"Walked slightly off the route and at the back of the pub/building site was an area that looked really horrible and possibly dangerous given the rest of the building site is properly blocked"
East Village
"Lovely little park with safe fence so you know the kids cant get to the road"
"Really like the bbq's available outside, and safety information available"
"Not sure where all the water has gone in the wetlands - also smelled really yukky"
"Nice to see people walking in the space. Saw many more people using the space here than i did in Little Ilford"
"Lovely little shop trying to encourage people to reduce buying things in packaging. I hope it's not too expensive"
"Whoever put this place space here wasn't thinking through what its actually like to be out with kids. trampolines in the ground next to the main road, wouldn't go anywhere near those with children. Given there are mostly flats around here and little outside space for children this seemed a real shame"
Newham
"Park facilities in need of renovation as observed disused toilets and changing rooms.
