Purpose and Plan for the Day

Our third day together is all about thinking bigger!

We are going to start the day with a carousel of expert speakers who will spark your imagination. Then it is a bit more idea creation before prioritising which topics are most important for answering your assembly questions.

How can we work together to make our parks and green spaces even better for residents and visitors?

How do we ensure everyone has access to quality green spaces?

Then it is time to start drafting those all important recommendations

Nesta's Future Parks Accelerator

Future Parks Accelerator - Nationally, there was a programme called the Future Parks Accelerator which helped local areas reimagine how they use their parks and spaces. Here are some videos on

  • The importance of parks and public spaces

  • How we value our public spaces

  • Green spaces for everyone

  • City habitats and health connections

You can find out more about the programme at Nesta's website

As well as the organisations you will hear today, there are a number of cities we've selected that are innovative in how they use their green spaces

Belfast Healthy City

Bogota Children's Priority Zones

Ghent City Council

Bournemouth Parks Foundation

Aberdeen City Council

Paris City Council

Stockholm City Council

Namba Parks, Osaka

Parks Community UK supports Friends' groups across the country to feel better equipped and more confident in their active involvement with their local park.

Good Gym and Park Run are great examples of using parks & open spaces to get healthy. Groundwork has developed different projects to enable people to use green spaces to build cohesion & skills.

Wild in the City and Future Proof Parks show you how can involve different communities in using green spaces. High Line Network show radical new uses of green spaces, while Transition Towns and Incredible Edible.

Major funders for community-led change include the National Lottery Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund and Power to Change. There are also opportunities to crowdfund projects.
