Catalyzing Broad Public Support for Frontline Organizations
Democratizing Philanthropy Project (DPP) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that shifts power to chronically underfunded, historically excluded nonprofit organizations by building their access to independent revenue. Through cohort-based coaching, virtual workshops, a peer network, and capacity grants, DPP helps organizations build reliable small-dollar revenue and engaged activist bases. Grassroots organizations are essential to the future of our democracy yet remain chronically underfunded. DPP exists to shift power and resources to the frontline organizations historically excluded from traditional philanthropy and increase their access to flexible dollars from small-dollar donors.
Through our year-end fundraising and communications campaign, DPP will offer organizations a suite of tools to secure new small-dollar donations, and we are seeking values-aligned funders to provide matching funds to help catalyze broad public support for these important organizations.
WHY OUR WORK MATTERS
WHAT WE HAVE ACCOMPLISHED
The state-based, historically excluded organizations in this #PowerProgress campaign have the potential to build infrastructure for lasting change, but they need reliable, independent revenue to power their movements.
Traditional nonprofit grants are often restricted, whereas DPP’s focus on small-dollar donations helps build a base of support groups can lean on over time.
Year-round infrastructure and resources are required to build long-term power in states. Critical work needs to happen between election cycles to build lasting power and drive systemic change—and small-dollar donors are key to ensuring groups can do the important work required.
During DPP’s pilot cohort programs, the 12 participating organizations collectively raised nearly $2M in 8 months from new small-dollar donors.
Through access to opt-in small-dollar donor email lists, and a robust coaching, training, and peer network program, participating organizations saw an average 310% increase in small dollar donors year-over-year.
Our key partnerships with Daily Kos and Blue Engine Collaborative focus on building skills, knowledge, and capacity that will support long-term revenue growth beyond a one-time campaign.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
By shifting power, growing independent revenue, and equipping BIPOC-led, nonprofit organizations with tools to engage small-dollar dollar donors year-round, we are building a sustainable foundation for lasting change.
Catalyze broad public support for groups that need it most. Join Way to Rise and Susan Sandler Fund with a matching grant that will inspire more small-dollar donors to give to organizations on the frontlines and power their movement over the long-term.
