COURSE DESCRIPTION
Language & Lyrics is an elective course designed for students to explore the elements of society, language, communication, and expression through the lens of music. Students will be exposed to the intention and meaning of music as seen through the rhythm, form, and context of various music mediums. This course incorporates popular 20th and 21st-century music that exposes students to the connection that exists between songs and society.

Explore how music evolved throughout the 20th century and 21st century due to changes in society, communication, and expression.
Songs & Storytelling
Explore a song’s ability to tell a story through studies on ballads, anthems, and concept albums.
Music in the Media
Explore music’s role in the media with topics such as movies, censorship, and song sampling.
Songs & Society
Explore the representation of gender, race, and sexuality in music and its ability to progress social movements.
