Transit Oriented Mixed Land Use Development
This thesis puts light on the concept of Transit Oriented Mixed-Use Developments. The project focuses on creating a variety of spaces that provide the opportunities to enhance the quality of living of the residents residing in the complex, people who walk-in as well as the nearby localities. Located in close vicinity of the Trilokpuri-Sanjay Lake Metro Station, this mixed use can be considered as a smart choice, especially in a city like Delhi where the pollution and traffic are at a level where they are impacting the health of people. The land also provides a great opportunity for creating an urban setting. Mixed-use development will also act as a catalyst in reducing the pressure on the since it encourages the pedestrian friendly environments.
Using the concept of Live-Work-Play, a complex with multi-functional activities has been designed, connecting at various levels, inter-relating to each other. It ensures the functioning of different activities throughout the day for different users. It provides opportunities to work, live, socialize and shop in a single area satisfying the needs of the inhabitants. In terms of the territoriality, there is a conscious intention towards a vertical organisation, which not only provides for the high density of people, but also creates a vertical stratification of spaces. The spaces are arranged using a combination of the horizontal and vertical mix, using privacy requirements as the guiding principle to achieve a successful functioning of the built environment. The planning is done in a way so that the most private areas can be made residential and the semi-private areas can consist of offices, shops and spaces for socializing.
Sharing of spaces by different user groups is also a principle used for designing which aimed towards creating a common ground for people to come together, interact and simultaneously, maximizing the available resources. The idea is to use not only a single type of space for performing the desired function but a variety of different spaces for a common function. For e.g. To provide quality housing, 4 different types of spaces are offered: 2-BHK, 3-BHK, 4- BHK and 5-BHK apartments, aiming to bring different groups of people together for communal living.
Similarly, office spaces vary from large scale offices to medium size offices with occupant’s capacity of 15-25 people to co-working spaces. Also, the parking convenience is ensured by
providing parking at different levels for different purposes i.e. residential parking and commercial parking.
Thus, this project delivers a self-sufficient, socially active complex, fostering the ideas of place making and pedestrian-friendly mixed-use environment with proper transit system.
Transit Oriented Mixed Land Use Development
The AVGC (Animation, Visual effects, Gaming and Comics) sector is emerging as an important sub-segment of the Media and Entertainment (M & E) industry constituting around 7% of the overall M&E industry. The Indian AVGC industries have grown and evolved over the last two decades but the need of film making facilities under single roof was immensely felt.
The budget of Indian animation movies has been steadily increasing and there is increased adoption of visual effect. In 2015, the market size of AVGC sector was estimated to be INR 8,242 crore. The sector is expected to grow at a healthy CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of 15% and its market size is expected to be INR 16,959 crore by 2020 and INR 29,661 crore by 2025. Within the AVGC sector, the animation sub-segment is expected to grow at a comparatively slow rate, with the major push in the sector coming from the VFX and gaming sub-segments.
Till early 1900s movies were shot outdoor in sunlight because of the inappropriate and inadequate lighting of the electric bulbs. It was only in 1920s, some good production companies like 20th Century Fox, RKO pictures etc were established and started their own studio, distribution division, theatres and contracted with performers and other film making personnel. Since then the film studio started growing technologically and in facilities too.
Key demands of the AVGC sector includes- increased consumption of VFX and digital post production in film and TV, increased 2D to 3D conversion, increased mobile and internet penetration and rise of social media gaming, increased co-production deals with international studios and increase in the number of start-ups in the gaming industry
Going frontward, the AVGC sector is expected to have a greater impact on the society – nurturing creativity at a grassroots level and being a medium to communicate Indian values to the next generation. The animation, comics and gaming segments have a tremendous potential to present Indian mythological content, culture, values and traditions to the children and youth of India.
National Centre of excellence in AVGC will be set-up under the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), which is a Society promoted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The Government will take measures to provide a high level of recognition for the NCOE to ensure academic and operational autonomy.
BUSINESS CUM RECREATIONAL CENTRE
The city centre is a complex structure rather than a community building. It provide opportunities for growth as well as community interaction. Therefore, in order to enhance and trigger the growth of an area, business-related functions are considered as the main aspects.
Pune, the cultural capital and second-largest city in Maharashtra has the eighth-largest metropolitan economy and sixth-highest per capita income in the country has its 62% of the population with a larger than average share of people in the age group of 25-34. Viman Nagar is primarily a residentially populated area having 40% of the student population studying in nearby colleges and institutes. It also houses Pune airport which is considered to be the fifth busiest airport in India. It is a place having pleasant weather throughout the year and has immense tourist potential, being very near to the coast region.
The project intends to design a multi- functional space that can be used by personnel of every age group. The aim is to create a hub providing an iconic image and architectural landmark to the city and to explore the symbiotic character of commerce and culture of Pune, resulting in a stable social infrastructure by acting as an urban catalyst which includes a complex building designed with the biophilic approach " in order to derive the concept of "non-office - office " focusing on sustainability, human-centric approach, and heritage sensitivity.
It’s a ‘commercial based mixed-land’ project, including commercial spaces; incorporating retail area, future focusing work space , exhibiting areas ( both indoor and outdoor ) , auditorium , five-star hotel and recreational spaces such as party lounge and bars, food courts , gym, movie theaters , gaming zone, and beautiful landscape to accommodate community under a single roof . Therefore, all the above spaces in the complex makes it suitable for all age groups to communicate and find multi-functional spaces within the boundary of a single complex. It also has specially designed specific spaces for local vendors wherein they can run their local businesses with better surroundings and more number of interested community which will increase their approach and living capacity.
CONTEMPORARY MOSQUE COMPLEX
Religion is one of the major factors in the world which is driving people through their lives. we as architects should be conscientious in doing our part to preserve the people’s beliefs. The designing process should be progressive and not monotonous. Modern styles should be blended in with the traditional styles in such a way that it connects with today’s world while holding on to their roots. The design has been done while keeping the same belief as the basic fundamental and it explores through the various elements of modern architecture and traditional Islamic architecture. The thesis is motivated by the thought that the youth in current scenarios is drifting away from their cultural and religious beliefs. Therefore, this thesis highlights how architects can contribute to resolve this issue by contemporizing religious buildings in order to induce religious beliefs in the youth by finding some interrelationships between modern and traditional architectural practices with sustainable features and blend them together. The mosque complex consists of a mosque building with a capacity of 2000 people and an Islamic school with a capacity of 400 students, which will be up till primary division. the concept of the design focuses on transforming the traditional elements of Islamic architecture in a way that gives them a contemporary look without causing them to lose their identities. The form is developed in such a way that it resembles a crescent moon (an Islamic symbol) when you look at the complex from certain elevational views. Jalis are the USP of this project and are used at different parts throughout the complex to fully utilize the natural daylight. sustainable functions like water recycling, solar energy consumption and roof gardens are provided. an entire space is especially demarcated for women in the mosque building complex.
