You will receive a uniform within the first couple weeks of the season. You can choose to purchase & race in your own plain black running shorts if you do not like the uniform shorts. You are expected to take good care of your uniform and return it at the end of the season. Please make sure it is washed when you turn it in. Mr. Bonofiglio will be meeting with you after the season if you do not turn in your uniform.
It is a good idea to have layers for race days. We recommend plain black cold gear (tights/leggings and long sleeve shirt) to wear underneath your uniform. You will race better with warm muscles. Keep these in your bag along with a sweatshirt, sweats, hat, and gloves for practices & meets that way you are prepared for cold weather.
Running shoes are a must. How fancy your shoes are isn’t a big deal. You can find nice running shoes at any shoe store. There are nice Nike and Adidas shoes that you will find work really well. If you would like to get shoes that fit your food and stride, you can check with a local running store. They will fit you and check how you walk to find a perfect match. These can be pricier, but sometimes you can get a nice deal.
Spikes are a good idea if you want to be competitive. If you are one of our athletes who is going to invitationals, we recommend you have spikes. You will notice a difference in time if you have them. If you are competing in track for fun, spikes are not necessary. If they are not an extra expense you can make at this time, it’s ok to just race in running shoes. You can pick up spikes at local running stores or somewhere like Dick’s.
