WHAT TO BRING
How many bags are we able to bring?
You may bring one large suitcase and one small backpack or carry-on. The large suitcase will be stowed under the bus while we journey from Delaware to DC and will only be accessible once we arrive at the hotel. The small backpack or carry-on will be with you on the journey from Delaware to DC so should have things that you may want or need. You will be responsible for carrying all of your luggage up and down flights of stairs at the hotel. Pack accordingly!!
What clothes should we pack?
We want to represent Dempsey well during our time in DC. Students should follow all dress code rules and be prepared for any and all weather. Follow the DC dress code.
What shoes should we bring?
Running shoes are encouraged since we walk many miles each day. It’s good to have back-up shoes when the weather is wet. Flip-flops and sandals are discouraged while we’re touring.
How much money should we bring?
Many students bring some extra money for snacks and souvenirs. Typically between $100-150. Meals, transportation, entertainment, and lodging are all paid for using your trip fees.
Are we allowed to bring credit/debit cards?
This is a family decision.
Can I take my cell phone?
Yes, please! We want you to be able to take pictures and communicate with your family. It’s also important for us to be able to communicate with you if there is an emergency. All district/school technology policies apply on this trip and must be followed. You are personally responsible for any items you bring. The staff, chaperones, and tour company are not responsible for any lost or stolen items, but we will do our very best to help you locate any item that goes missing.
Can I bring my Nintendo Switch, iPad, or other gaming device?
No. You may not bring electronics that can access internet sites, video streaming services, or messaging services. No GoPro cameras either.
Do I need to bring an air mattress?
All hotel rooms will be able to sleep four students in a room. You don’t need an air mattress but if you prefer one that is fine and it will be your responsibility and must fit in your luggage.
Can I pack snacks?
Yes.
THE BUS
Is there a bathroom on the bus?
Yes, but the bus restroom is for emergencies only. We visit rest areas regularly throughout the trip.
Can I pick my own seat on the bus?
NO. Bus leaders will create a seating chart and seat you with your group.
THE HOTEL
How many kids sleep in a room?
There will be 4 students per room. Most rooms will have two full or queen size beds.
Can we swim in the hotel pool?
The pool is off limits during the trip.
Can we use the vending machine and ice machine?
No. You are bringing your own snacks.
Can we DoorDash food or groceries to the hotel?
No. This is a safety issue.
Can we visit other hotel rooms?
No. NEVER. Once you are in your room, you may only leave at the direction of your chaperone.
FOOD
Where do we eat in DC?
The morning that we leave, you should bring your own breakfast or snack. On our way to DC you will eat your sack lunch that you brought with you. Once we arrive at the hotel, we’ll have a buffet style breakfast each morning. Lunch/Dinner will typically be at a boxed meal or a restaurant. If you have food restrictions or an allergy, please make sure your forms contain all necessary details and information related to your restriction/allergy. Please reach out to a D.C. advisor as early as possible if you would like to schedule a meeting to discuss medical or dietary needs.
SAFETY
What should I do if I get lost?
Students are required to stay in groups of 4 while on this trip. You must always have a friend with you, even when you travel to and from the bathroom. Be aware of what’s around you and report any suspicious or concerning activity to your chaperones. All of the buses will have a StudentSquare group account. Use the StudentSquare app to message your chaperone(s) if you become separated.
