STUDENT DISCIPLINE WHILE ON THE TRIP
Throughout the Washington D.C. trip we are representing Dempsey and Delaware City Schools. Each student on the trip must adhere to the DCS Student Code of Conduct/Student Discipline Code. All Federal, State and local laws also apply.
It is a privilege to travel, and students are responsible for their actions during the trip. Always remember that an individual’s behavior reflects on the other students, the chaperones, Delaware City Schools, and him/herself. Whether at a museum, traveling, or at a restaurant, students should behave respectfully and appropriately at all times.
Students who fail to comply with the Rules and Guidelines may a) be assigned to a chaperone as their buddy, b) lose phone privileges, c) have a room change, or d) an early return home from the trip at the parent/guardian’s expense.
If a student is sent home by means other than the touring bus, the parent/guardian will pay the expense. If the parent/guardian opts to fly the student home, the cost of flying a chaperone to accompany the underage student will also be covered at the parent/guardian’s expense.
Any student found to be in possession of drugs, weapons, alcohol, or tobacco/vaping products during the trip or on the day of departure will be removed from the trip.
EARLY TRIP HOME
If a student is sent home by means other than the touring bus, the parent/guardian will pay the expense. For example, disciplinary reasons, emergency at home, or illness, the cost of that trip will be at the expense of the parent/guardian.
You will be responsible for your 8th grader and the adult's transportation costs. A one-way airplane ticket can cost over $450. Airplane flights must fly out of Ronald Reagan Airport. It is your responsibility to make all of the travel arrangements.
We never want to send a student home, but we have had to do this a few times. We want you to know upfront what this involves.
You will be asked to give a password that you and your student have agreed upon to the airline personnel. The child will not be allowed on the plane without saying the password.
You will have to cover the cost of an Uber for an administrator, a DC Advisor and your student. We insist that an adult accompany a minor to the airport and on the flight. We will not put a minor in an Uber by themselves even if a parent feels it would be fine to do so.
You will have to cover the cost of any meals the administrator and advisor has missed due to taking your student to the airport.
You will have to cover the cost of an Uber for the advisor to return to meet the group.
Please impress upon your student the importance of responsible behavior and the huge cost to their family if they have to leave the trip.
