Recycling At Del Norte

Entire Class Participation

Del Norte High School started its recycling program in 2017-2018 thanks to MDS Waste and Recycling in Creede, Colorado. Because it was the first year implementing recycling students worked to get the word out about recycling.

Up Cycling Tire Program

Concerned about tire waste dumped in recreational areas, students decided to change the waste into treasure. Tires turned to chairs and bicycle tires were turned into belts.

Ban the Bottle

Plastic water bottles Student campaign to reduce the use of plastic water bottles. Students asked for a simple commitment to reduce personal waste by giving up bottled water, even if it's just a few days each week. Together, filtered water and a reusable bottle are an ideal solution for going green at home and on the go. It's an easy change that can make a big difference.

Outdoor Garden

Students created a raised bed garden for edible plants. It was rewarding for us to see how these students have been processing some complex ideas and reasons for having a school garden e.g. global warming, ecosystem, food web, nutrition, health and importance of nature connections, school and garden economy.
