At DeKalb ISD, our social studies program is built on the foundation of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Students explore history, geography, government, and culture to better understand the world around them and their place in it. Through engaging lessons, discussions, and projects, we help students make connections between the past and present, develop critical thinking skills, and grow as informed, responsible citizens. Our goal is to empower every student to understand and shape the world in meaningful ways.
Elementary Social Studies grades PreK-4th grade TEKS are taught primarily along side the reading content. Grades 3 and 4 have additional Social Studies instruction and utilize Studies Weekly Curriculum. Upper grades utilize Social Studies curriculum from the TEKSResource System/TCMPC.
