Math in DeKalb ISD

We believe all students, regardless of background or proficiency, deserve high expectations and meaningful engagement with math. Real-world connections and balanced conceptual and procedural skills build fluency for every learner.

We believe in aligning math instruction with the TEKS to meet rigorous academic standards by focusing time and effort on key topics to build a strong foundation for critical thinking and problem-solving. 

We believe a well-designed mathematics curriculum should be taught as a continuous, connected story, where each new concept builds on prior knowledge to ensure a coherent, equitable progression across all grade levels. 

We believe all students will engage in productive struggle through practice, discussion, and diverse representations, as learning from errors and revising thinking deepens understanding and strengthens critical reasoning in mathematics.
