Throughout this quarter, students program animations, interactive art, and games in Game Lab in Code.org. This quarter of the course is broken down into two units: 1. Images & Animations and 2. Game Programming. The first unit starts off with simple shapes and by the end of the second unit it builds up to more sophisticated sprite-based games, using the same programming concepts and the design process computer scientists use daily. In the final project, you’ll develop a personalized, interactive program.
This quarter of the course uses micro:bit controllers and is made of several short units that each focusing on specific computer science concepts and programming skills including:
Algorithms
Variables
Conditionals
Iteration
Coordinate grid system
Booleans
Bits, bytes, and binary
Radio
Arrays
A micro:bit is a handheld, programmable micro-computer with a 5x5 display of 25 LEDs, Bluetooth and sensors that can be programmed.
