This is the second annual This Girl Can event here at Granville Academy. In order to ensure this campaign is effective, we asked students the reasons that prevented them from taking part in sports or physical activity. The main reasons identified were a perceived lack of time and self-confidence.
To overcome these barriers, we created a Girls' Leadership Academy. This involved students planning, promoting and delivering activities to increase students' participation in Sport and Physical Activity. These students have helped design our timetable of events to help inspire more young people to be active.
“I’ve really enjoyed the This Girl Can Week activities. I believe that the leadership sessions helped me to build up my confidence and develop leadership skills. I also enjoyed meeting new people and making friends from different schools and year groups. These are really good opportunities for making new friends, developing sports skills and knowledge, and building up confidence"

Following their participation in last year's campaign, students also reported that their self-confidence and activity levels had improved.
"The campaign really improved my confidence when leading others. I really enjoyed encouraging other girls to engage in different sports and activities"
