New Jersey Deer Population   In 2025 about 123,000 whitetail deer in hunted areas of New Jersey, extrapolated using hunting data from a state estimate of 115,000 in 2023.  A recent low population estimated by the state of 84,000 in 2022 and a recent high population of 148,000 in 2020.  A significant increase in hunting as a result of the pandemic and a significant outbreak of epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD) reduced populations.  The state estimates the recent peak population at 204,000 in 1995.  Estimates apply to deer in hunted areas.
