Woke Kindergarten

Woke Read Alouds approach each text through a liberatory, abolitionist lens. These read alouds ensure that kids are making connections and thinking critically about the content in ways that directly relate to the social and political climate of the world.

Civil Rights and Civil Wrongs

Civil Rights and Civil Wrongs is intended as a 6th-8th grade social studies unit, although it could easily be adapted for other grade levels. It can augment a local history or civil rights study, or it can be taught on its own.

Black Lives Matter At School

Black Lives Matter at School is a national coalition organizing for racial justice in education. We encourage all educators, students, parents, unions, and community organizations to join our annual week of action during the first week of February each year.

Civil discourse in the classroom

This curriculum will introduce basic tools for teaching civil discourse. It is not subject-specific; on the contrary, these tools of argumentation and discussion lend themselves to any subject in any classroom.

Civil disobedience

A Teaching Tolerance resource for grades 9-12 that explores the following essential questions:

  • To what extent is collective action necessary to defeat injustice?

  • How can we, as citizens, organize an act of civil disobedience?



Tribal history/Shared history

In 2017, the Oregon Legislature enacted Senate Bill (SB) 13, now known as Tribal History/Shared History. This law directs the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) to create K-12 Native American Curriculum for inclusion in Oregon public schools and provide professional development to educators. The law also directs the ODE to provide funds to each of the nine federally recognized tribes in Oregon to create individual place-based curriculum.
