Hiring and Retention

We want to build a district culture that is unapologetic about hiring staff of color to increase representation of our student population.
Demands:
  • We demand a “Grow Your Own” program for students of color to become employees in our district. The program must include financial support to pay for tuition.
  • We demand a community outreach program to inform, encourage, and support families and students of color to become DDSD employees.
  • We demand the use of an equity lens in the hiring process to address implicit and explicit bias.
  • We demand an HR liaison with FTE dedicated to diversifying the workforce.


Updates/Connections:

  • DDSD Staff of Color, in collaboration with certified union (DDEA), are meeting with district leadership to review strategic hiring plan and collaborate on strategies to recruit and retain diverse employees.

  • Discussions will include progress on demands, along with mentorship for staff of color and impacts of reduction in force on new employees of color.
