How many classes can register for each event?
The number of classes that can participate will not be restricted by cost this year. Each class can sign up for 1 contest WITH cost for free, the rest will be the responsibility of school budgets.
Can I register my class for more than one event?
Absolutely, register for anything you would like to participate in. There are 8 different completely free competitions (assuming you have some capital equipment).
If I register my class, do I have to do the full challenge, including choosing one 'winner'.
Yes, it is expected that all classes chose a winning submission and complete all aspects of the scope. We encourage students to do self and peer-evaluations and use conversations, observations, and products to determine the submission that will be entered for the official Skills Ontario Challenge. Note: your class team entry is due Monday February 29th.
What is a scope?
A scope is a document that outlines the Skills Challenge, including the judging components.
My class is virtual, can we still compete?
Virtual students could compete in the Animation, TV/Video Production, or Virtual VEX challenges. All other challenges have hands-on components that require direct supervision.
Can I register a club instead of a whole class?
Yes, if a teacher is registering a club (e.g. VEX Robotics team) they would indicate the number of competitors in the 'Number of Students' section on the Registration Form. Please also include a note to me in the comments to help you!
The Agriculture, Construction, Green Energy and Tech Design Challenges require tools, what if I don't have enough tools in my class for each student to have their own set?
Please contact Rich Bishop if you need to sign out some tools, we may have additional tool kits available on a first-come, first-served basis.
It mentions a registration fee on the Skills Ontario site, do we have to pay this per student?
No, the Student Success Department has paid the registration fees.
How many kits will I receive?
Each class registered will receive a full class kit for the qualifier round. For the regional round, each team will have a full set of new materials made available.
