DDSB SKILLS Competiton SCOPE: Construction:
Congrats on having a team qualify for the Regional event on April 15th @ the Tribute Community Centre. Included in this email are a couple things to think about as well as things to make sure that you bring.
The scope of the challenge is the same as last year and is identical to the Provincial scope with the exception that we will not be decorating our house with recycled materials.

Teams need to bring a completed TO-SCALE blueprint with them on April 15th on 11in x 17in ledger paper.
The maximum size of the house is 600mm x 900mm.
The measurements for the wood for this competition is as follows: 10 boards of 19mm x 38mm x 2400mm
A panelized approach will be rewarded over stick framing. That means that they have a separately framed floor, walls and roof. Because our goal is to focus on the construction aspect of the contest, houses that include properly framed doors, windows, etc. will also be rewarded.
Unlike the Provincial Scope: We will NOT be having recycled materials at the competition to put on the houses, so you do not need to worry about bringing that.
Unlike the in-class portion that was targeted at a multi-dwelling family, the design for this competition is to make a scale model of a modest and affordable house for a well deserving family.
No student can participate in this Challenge without proper safety clothing and equipment. This includes safety eye-wear and gloves, closed toe shoes and no dangling jewelry. Long hair should be tied back and not impede vision.
Note: We will be using power drills for this contest.
We will have some available to borrow if you don't have one - just let Rich or Blair (lead judge) know. If you have extras, please bring them and we will have plenty of power to set up a charging station.
Please ensure that students have had an opportunity to operate the drills before the day of.
