About K.I.E.N
Keenanow Indigenous Employee Network
Working together to make D.D.S.B. a better place for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.
Keenanow Indigenous Educators' Network (KIEN) supports employees, teachers and students who identify as Indigenous or allies in the pursuit of a healthy, informed, and collaborative community.
Our Network includes individuals who are Durham District School Board Employees representing many diverse nations and communities, and our allies.
What Do We Do?
•Run Indigenous Events and Socials
•Organize Indigenous Student Day(s) in June
•Collaborate and engage in professional inquiry and action for justice projects with other networks and among ourselves
Statement of Intention:
Our KIEN group was created to provide support towards reconciliation, cultural revitalization and building strong, healthy, respectful relationships that will benefit the Indigenous educators within the Durham District School Board.
With the aforementioned in mind, we are a dedicated group who are committed to providing safe and positive space within the DDSB, so employees can connect and explore their identity in a supportive way. We promote equity, cultural growth, community interaction, and most of all, a sense of belonging.
We want to bring community together:
to build strong and healthy relationships between each other and our Allies
to instill pride in our students, staff and families
to take collaborative action towards initiatives that foster cultural restoration
to have all Indigenous Students and Educators feel safe and accepted
to have difficult conversations that result in positive change and true reconciliation
