Classifying Matter

Today's Learning Goals:

By the end of today's lesson I will...

• Be able to recognize chemistry as a discipline which explores changes in matter and energy

• Recognize the significance of the periodic table in the study of chemistry

• Be able to classify mixtures into one of three categories: Pure Substance, Mechanical Mixture or Solution

• Recognize that matter can exist in three phases: solid, liquid and gas. I will recognize and name the transitions between these phases

• Be able to perform various metric conversions

So, who were the people who first started thinking about the nature of matter, and how it changes? Well alchemists were some of the minds behind what we know about certain materials and chemical reactions today.
