Meet the Journalism Sponsors: Mrs. Eggen and Ms. Dailey!
Hello! My name is Mrs. Eggen This is my third year at DCW, and I teach English 9, English Support and Journalism / Yearbook. I have been part of the DC West community since the very beginning TWENTY years ago!! Both of my sons graduated from here and I LOVE the Falcons! I came to teach at DC West after 14 years teaching for Omaha Public Schools. I could not possibly be any more happy about teaching here because the people are amazing. I love to joke around with my students, watch my students learn, and I feel very lucky that I get to teach with the most awesome Ms. Dailey!
My biggest love is my family. I have been married to my husband Bob for 29 years. We have lived in Waterloo for 31 years and are very involved in our community. Two years ago we finally built our dream home on a half acre in the heart of Waterloo. My oldest son Lane is 27 years old and teaches 5th grade at Springville Elementary in Omaha. My son Ty is 25 and works for DMSI a supply chain management company. He will be getting married this year to Emily (my future daughter in law). She is also a teacher, she teaches 3rd grade in Elkhorn at Springridge Elementary.
When my children started school, at the age of 37, I went to college. I graduated with my undergraduate degree when I was 40. Four years later, I completed my Masters Degreee in literacy. I am still very proud of this accomplishment because it was a lot to juggle while rising a young family. I pride myself on being able to build fun and encouraging relationships with students. It is important to me because I think it makes coming to school more fun for everyone.
I am looking forward to getting to know those of you that I do not know and continue to work with those of you that I know very well. As a person, you will find me very outgoing and easy to talk to. I want all of my students to know I am here for them now, and for the rest of their lives. Remember, I am always will be ready to help you solve a problem or celebrate a success you have had.

Hello everyone! My name is Ms. Dailey. This is my third year as a teacher at DCW but I am from Wahoo, NE. I teach English 9 , Honors English 9, Journalism / Yearbook, and a senior literature elective!
I am a proud dog mom and aunt to two of the sweetest kids. I am lucky to be heavily involved in the DC West community as the high school dance coach and helper in the arts. I am also thankful to be a big part of my hometown community where I coach club volleyball and play in multiple sand volleyball leagues!
For college, I attended the University of Oklahoma where I began as a journalism student and worked at the OU newspaper, The OU Daily. Although I loved being a journalism student, I ultimately knew I wanted to be teaching in the classrooms of high schools. I am so lucky to be able to combine both my passions in one here at DC West with teaching English & Journalism!
Overall, teaching has given me the opportunity to pursue what I love most—working with students and sharing my passions for English and Journalism. Every day, I am reminded of how lucky I am to teach some of the best students here at DC West, whose energy, creativity, and kindness make this job so rewarding. I truly feel grateful to be part of such a supportive community, and I can’t wait to see all the incredible things my students will accomplish this year!
