In the construction career and technical education (CTE) unit, students engage in a hands-on project where they collaboratively plan the bridge-building process. The unit begins with brainstorming sessions where students calculate dimensions and load requirements, followed by discussions to decide on the appropriate materials, such as cardboard, straws, tape, glue, toothpicks, popsicle sticks, etc. Once the planning phase is complete, students construct the bridge according to their designs. After building, they test the bridge's stability by placing a car on it, evaluating its strength and performance. This project not only enhances their construction and problem-solving skills but also encourages teamwork and critical thinking in real-world applications.
