Meet Mrs. EMM

Hi, I'm Katie Emm!

I am so excited to be a Pau-Wa-Lu Panther! I've been in the district for eleven years both as a teacher (at DHS and PWL) and as a counselor (CCMES). I LOVED my time at PWL as a teacher, and when the opportunity arose to return, I eagerly took it. I grew up overseas in Bitburg, Germany, the child of parents who taught the children of military members on a military base. Since we were civilians, I was raised in the German community in an American household for all 18 years of my youth. I graduated from Bitburg American High School and moved to the U.S. to go to the University of Oregon. I spent a year there, and transferred to University of Nevada-Reno my sophomore year to be closer to my brother (who was going to college there as well) and my parents (who had retired after 30 years overseas and moved to Reno). I changed my majors several times, but ended up LOVING the idea of teaching; it felt like home since I was raised frequenting my parent's classrooms/gym (my dad was a PE teacher and coach). I graduated with my bachelor's in Secondary Education in English and came down to teach at Douglas High School, where I remained for four years. I met my now husband during this time who is a math teacher at ASPIRE and the 6th/7th grade girl's basketball coach at PWL as well as the assistant boy's varsity coach at Douglas High School. After my time at DHS, I transferred to PWL to be a reading teacher. I stayed at PWL for three years where I really loved the culture, staff, and middle school students. During this time I had our daughter, Ellie, who is starting kindergarten this year, and who makes us laugh daily. She is athletic and sassy yet sensitive. She loves animals and the water. During my time at PWL, I completed my master's degree in school counseling. I interned with Mr. Arraiz, and a job opportunity came up at C.C. Meneley the year I completed my degree, so took the opportunity to do what I had always got into education to do: connect with students, support staff, and be an advocate for students and families while building a helpful bridge to community resources through school counseling. I realized very quickly that getting into school counseling was one of the very best decisions I've ever made. I LOVE my job, and I am so excited to continue my journey in school counseling here at PWL. This summer (June 5th) my son, Camden, was born and is the best addition to complete our family. He is laid back and loves to smile. I am excited to work with you and your families to be an advocate and a positive connection and helpful resource here at Pau-Wa-Lu.
