Welcome to kindergarten! I'm so excited to partner with you and your child as we begin this important year together. Kindergarten is a time of tremendous growth—academically, socially, and emotionally. Throughout the year, you’ll watch your child grow as a friend, reader, writer, mathematician, scientist, and curious thinker. It’s going to be a wonderful journey filled with learning, discovery, and lots of fun!
A bit about me....
I’m a Colorado native and grew up in Arvada. After spending several years out of state for college, I returned to Colorado and earned my degree in Elementary Education from Colorado Christian University. I taught first and second grade for several years here in Douglas County before choosing to stay home to raise my children. My husband and I have been married for 25 years, and we have three children who are now 20, 18, and 15 years old.
This year marks a new chapter for our family as we begin balancing life with two kids out of state for college—our son is a junior in Minnesota, and our daughter will be starting her freshman year in California. Our youngest isn’t quite sure how he feels about being the only one at home—it’s definitely going to take some getting used to!
During my years at home, I worked part-time as a childcare coordinator at our church, which allowed me to stay connected to my passion for creativity and curriculum development while still being present with my kids. About five years ago, I returned to education as a substitute teacher and later accepted a long-term sub position at SVE as a mild/moderate needs special education teacher. I absolutely loved the experience and knew it was time to return to the classroom full-time.
Last year was my second year teaching kindergarten at SVE, and I continue to feel incredibly grateful to be in this role. I don’t take my position as a kindergarten teacher lightly—I have the privilege of being many students’ first experience with full-day school, and I recognize how important that is. It’s my job to help lay the foundation for a love of learning, and that is always my goal.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, running, doing yoga, and traveling—especially to the beach. This summer, my family visited St. Martin, which quickly became one of my favorite places.
I’m honored to be teaching kindergarten at Summit View again this year. Thank you for trusting me with your child—I’m looking forward to a wonderful year ahead!
