Social Emotional Learning is a school-wide process that begins in classroom crews. Ms. Allison, Ms. Halle, and Ms. Tina work together to use district approved, research based, curriculum resources such as Social Thinking, MindUp, and Second Step to teach lessons in the five SEL competency areas; self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making.
Students who may need further instruction or interventions in any of these five areas are supported by Ms. Tina and Ms. Halle, as well as the school IMTSS team (integrated multi-tiered system of support). This is frequently seen as small group instruction, teacher coaching, and informal behavior plans.
Students in the Discovery program or on IEPs are further supported by Ms. Allison. This includes whole crew SEL lessons, small groups, and formal behavior plan implementation.
Tools that are used in classrooms to support students can be found in the REMS SEL family folder.
