I mostly share important information and requests through email. I typically check my email before and after school. If you need to reach me during school hours, I will set up Class Dojo Messaging (for those interested) for quick communications. Please call the front office when your child will be absent from school. If there is a change in transportation for your child, please message me on Dojo or call the front office.
Volunteers
We love our volunteers at BCE! Please be on the lookout for more information about volunteering opportunities in September.
Backpacks and Belongings
Please help us keep track of your child's belongings by labeling their backpack, outerwear, and supplies with their name.
Homework
Homework is a great way to witness your child's progress and see what they are learning in class. Students will have homework daily.
One of the primary focuses in second grade is improving your child's reading fluency. One of the ways you can help increase your child's fluency is by dedicating time every day to read with them. As such, we ask that you spend 20 minutes every day reading with them and exploring a variety of books.
While homework completion is a great indicator of success for students, the intended purpose is to gain practice with skills they have already been introduced to in class. Homework is meant to build routine and for students to gain repeated exposure to different skills. If homework becomes a point of frustration or takes longer than 30 minutes (including the 20 minutes of reading), please have your child stop and send me an email letting me know that the homework was challenging.
Snacks
Please have your child bring one healthy, nut-free snack each day as well as a water bottle labeled with their name.
Birthday Celebrations
We would love to help your child celebrate their birthday! If you’d like to send in a treat for your child to share with classmates, anything store-bought, with a label and prepared, is preferable to accommodate food allergies. We have several students with a life-threatening food allergy to peanuts/tree nuts. Please do not send in treats that contain any kind of nut. Thanks for your understanding!
A note regarding birthday invitations: If you would like birthday invitations to be passed out at school, please make sure you have an invitation for every child in the class. If your child is only going to invite a few friends from the class, invitations should be passed out outside of school hours (for example, after school at pick up or at play dates).
