First, let me express how proud I am to be a part of the Rock Canyon High School community. This is my 12th year here at Rock Canyon and my 22nd year teaching. In addition to directing the three Rock Canyon Orchestras, I also enjoy teaching Guitar classes. Furthermore, it is an honor for me to teach before/after school orchestra programs at the four elementary schools in the area: Buffalor Ridge, Redstone, Timber Trail and Wildcat Mountain.
Next, I want to share a little about myself: I was born and raised in Minnesota and began my cello studies at the age of four. In August of 2009, my wife and I relocated to Colorado from the East Coast where, for ten years, we lived, taught, and attended the Eastman School of Music (Rochester, NY). At Eastman, I was a triple major in Cello Performance, Music Education, and Musical Arts (Music Therapy concentration). After graduating, I taught Orchestra in a suburb of Rochester for three years. We then moved to Princeton, New Jersey, so that my wife could pursue her Masters Degree, and during our two years there, I established an Orchestra program at an inner-city charter school in Trenton, NJ. Upon moving to Colorado and for the next five years, I held the position of Director of Orchestras in the Standley Lake Area of Westminster, where I taught at seven elementary schools and Standley Lake High School. I have experience teaching orchestra and strings in urban and suburban settings to students from as young as 4 to as old as 80.
I am a proud husband to my beautiful and talented wife, Julia (who is the Director of Choirs at Rock Canyon), and father of an amazing boy, Charlie and his awesome younger sister, Ellie. In addition to spending time with my family, I love Bach, baseball, and the great outdoors.
Despite my success thus far, I can say without hesitation that I believe the best years of my career are yet to come. The RC performing arts department has an impressive history of outstanding achievements and the talented students and dedicated families who are the heart and soul of the program are the reasons for that success. I am elated to have the opportunity to work in an environment where high standards are exceeded, a quality product is the norm, and where every individual is a valued member of the group. I am committed to providing the best quality education and a worthwhile musical experience to each of my students, and working together, we have the potential to do amazing things.
Never hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns, and thank you for your participation and support!
