This class is for beginning guitar students ONLY. The purpose of this class is to cover the various aspects of playing the guitar and music in general. Topics covered include: posture, chord playing and writing, basic music theory, standard and Tablature notation, reading and writing melodies, and basic strumming patterns. Students must reinforce concepts with practice at home.
Fees: Purchase of books to be provided ($33), and every student is responsible for providing their own ACOUSTIC guitar (electric guitars cannot be used in this class).
Prerequisite: This course is open to any student who has successfully passed Beginning Guitar or who possesses appropriate guitar expertise.
Guitar II is an extension of the basic skills learned in Beginning Guitar including a focus on the following: mastery of standard and Tablature notation, exploration of chord and melody playing in different positions, additional solo and ensemble performances in and out of class, and an introduction to different musical genres (i.e. Folk, classical, blues, and rock). Students must reinforce concepts with practice at home.
Prerequisite: This course is open to any student who has successfully passed Guitar II or who possesses appropriate guitar expertise.
Guitar III will focus on advanced skills in the following areas: Warm-ups and technical exercises; chords in various styles and positions; performance in standard musical notation and tablature notation; fingerstyle playing; popular riffs from a variety of genres; and guitar maintenance and accessories. Every student is responsible for providing their own ACOUSTIC guitar (electric guitars cannot be used in this class).
