Audition Process
Audition Process:
1) Warm-Ups (so that Mr. Hizer may assess your range and tone)
2) Singing alone on a piece from your choir. If you are not in a Choir currently, you can sing the Star Spangled Banner. (so that Mr. Hizer may assess your tone, volume and pitch).
3) Singing your part on a piece from your current choir class while Mr. Hizer sings another part against you. (So that Mr. Hizer may assess your ability to hold a part, blend and musical independence)
4) Sight Reading. This will be similar to the ones we do in class. You can practice in the Sight Reading Factory module in Canvas OR at sightreadingfactory.com (but you'll only be able to use the free examples since we don't have access to SRF through the website anymore) . You will be given the key, starting pitch, and 30 seconds to practice before you perform. (So that Mr. Hizer can assess your ability to sight read). There will be three sight readings from which you can choose: Level 3 (but you can only earn a maximum of 6/10 points), Level 4 (but you can only earn a maximum of 8/10 points) and Level 5 (you can earn the full 10/10 points).
5) Rhythm. This will be similar to the ones we do in class from Sight Reading Factory. You will be given 30 seconds to practice. You may clap, tap or speak (on numbers or neutral syllable) the rhythm. (So that Mr. Hizer can assess your ability to read rhythms.) . There will be three rhythms from which you can choose: Level 3 (but you can only earn a maximum of 6/10 points), Level 4 (but you can only earn a maximum of 8/10 points) and Level 5 (you can earn the full 10/10 points).
6) Aural Recall. Mr. Hizer will play a series of 4-6 notes and you will sing them back to him on a neutral syllable. (So that Mr. Hizer can assess your ability to recall pitches quickly).
