Confidentiality

Student & family privacy is very important. All information shared with a school counselor will remain confidential unless a student shares a plan to harm themself or someone else, or there is suspicion a student may be a victim of abuse or neglect.

In these situations, we are required by law to report this information to parents and/or the appropriate agencies.

Counselors may share information with teachers/staff with student and/or parent permission.

School counselors recognize their primary obligation regarding confidentiality is to the student but balance that obligation with an understanding of the family or guardians’ legal and inherent rights to be the guiding voice in their children’s lives.
