The biggest adjustment in third grade will be the homework requirement.
Homework assists in building time management skills and responsibility skills. Homework will be given on Monday (or the first day of the week) through Friday. and due on Fridays (or the last day of the week). In third grade, we begin using a planner. This is a great way to know what homework your student has. Please begin building that routine of reviewing the planner together. I will initial your student's planner daily. Please initial as well to communicate you have reviewed it with your student. This is a great communication tool.
i-Ready lessons: each week, students need to pass two math and two reading lessons with at least 30 minutes of time spent on lessons. More practice is great! i-Ready is an individual tutor. Students will have some class time as part of reading and math block to work on their lessons.
Math: additional practice pages will be given each week that corresponds to the lesson that is taught. These practice pages will be due the next day. Additional math fact fluency sheets may be assigned throughout the week.
Spelling: spelling lists will be given at the beginning of each week and our tests will be the last day of the week. Students will be given a spelling practice to assist with studying either a spelling bingo sheet to chose activities or a practice packet.
Reading: Students are required to read 15 - 20 minutes a day. Beginning in September, students will complete a monthly book report.
Writing: writing journals or reading comprehension activities will be given every other week.
