Attendance:
Regular attendance is important for your child to have a successful year. I do understand that absences willl occur from time to time. Please be sure to call the Cougar Run attendance line and leave a message as soon as you know your child will not be attending school. The attendance line number is (30)387-6677. Feel free to also email me to let me know of the absence.
Arrival and Dismissal:
School hours are from 8:25 am -3:30 pm with the tardy bell ringing at 8:40 am. Please do not drop your child off before 8:25 am as there is no supervision outside. Third graders can enter the building at 8:25 am through the door off of Venneford Ranch Road. They will also be dismissed through this door. Please make sure you have set a meeting place with your child for pick up after school. If there is a change in pick up, please notify the main office and they will call our room to let me and your child know.
Student Planner
All students will receive a planner on the first day of school. Students are expected to record homework and important dates in their planner. Please set some time to review your student's planner and help set up a routine at home to help them use this as an organizational tool.
Homework
Homework will be given Monday - Friday (or the start of the week.) Reading comprehension and writing prompts alternate weeks and are due on Fridays (or the last day of the week.) Math homework from the i-Ready program will be sent home to correspond with the math lesson in class and is due back the next day. Daily, your student should study spelling using activity sent home or another way to review words, read 15 - 20 minutes, and study basic math facts. Please see the homework tab for more information.
Weekly Happenings
Each Friday (or last day of the week), I will send out an email update for the week which will include information about classroom topics and events as well as upcoming dates of importance. You can access my Weekly Happenings here Weekly Happenings or via the link on my Third Grade Website on the Home page.
Friday Folders
Friday folders will be sent home each Friday (or last day of the week) with graded work and school notes. Please review, empty folder, and return any signed forms the following Monday in the folder.
Snack & Water Bottles
Snack should be something that’s quick, healthy, and easy to consume. Snacks cannot be shared. Please be mindful, this year we have a peanut allergy in our class.
Students are also encouraged to bring a water bottle. Please make sure your water bottle is clearly labeled. Everyone is allowed access to his/her water bottle at all times in our classroom.
Birthdays
We will celebrate birthdays in the classroom with a presentation of a birthday pencil. If you would like to send treats in for your child's birthday, please reach out ahead of time. Treats must be store bought.
Behavior
In addition to following the behavior expectations set by Douglas County School District, Cougar Run ROCKS:
Cougar Run embraces Positive Behavior Support by explicitly teaching, modeling and recognizing students for demonstrating our core values.
R-Respect and Responsibility
O-The Power of One
C-Compassion
K-Kindness
S-Safety
We believe in Restorative Practices. If students have a conflict we encourage a time for students to voice their concerns and develop natural consequences for their actions.
Chrome books/Technology
All third graders will have a chrome book assigned to them. At the beginning of the school year, students will attend a Tech Academy and learn the rules and expectations for using computers.
