Cimarron Electives Class Overview
Welcome to Music Appreciation!
For questions and information please contact me kbarrett1@dscdk12.org
First Semester:
This course examines popular music from the 1900s through the 1960s, and how that music connected with the time period.
Through discussions, projects, and activities we will learn: what styles of music were popular during decade, popular artists songs,
what was going on in the world and our country during each decade, how people listened to music, the fashion of each decade,
inventions and other firsts of each decade, and how music connects to your life.
Activities in class:
Listening log:
Everyday, you will fill out a listening log. We will listen to one song a day and answer the questions given to you. Make sure you do this every day!
Powerpoint notes:
You will have paperwork to fill out everyday. At the end of each decade we will have a test on what we have learned- so it is essential that you fill out paperwork to help you remember what we discussed in class!
Projects
You will receive a project for every decade we go over. Most of the time, the unit will last about 10 days- which means your project will last about 10 days.
Expectations:
I expect you to:
Have materials- pencils, colored pencils, scissors, paper- folders will be provided to you- do not write on the folders or tear them- I do have to use them for other classes!
Behavior - please make sure you are being respectful to everyone in the classroom. We are all learning together and if you are being disrespectful, we are not using our time wisely, which means less time on projects and class time which will affect your grades. If you miss class, please ask someone for notes- they will be essential for you! Quizzes and project makeups will be on Fridays- scheduled in the morning or afternoon with me.
