Who's Working on What?

WHAT IS SEL?

In the words of a Heritage 5th grader:

"It's like recess where we talk about important stuff. I wish we had SEL every day!"

In the 2019-2020 school year, visit this page to learn which classes are currently participating actively in the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum. As part of the "double specials" rotation, every four weeks, students in grades one through six will cycle through double specials. When a student's class is on cycle, the student will receive SEL instruction twice weekly. Each participating student will have three SEL cycles over the course of the school year.

The information below will identify the SEL topics for each class in the current cycle and provide suggestions for how you can help integrate the child's social-emotional learning at home and in the community. Stay connected!

The 19-20 6th Grade SEL Leadership Team, who is campaigning on the Building Resilient Me program all year completed their assembly on an element of resilience - healthy FRIENDSHIPs. They offered encouragement to the Heritage community associated with how to make and keep friends, good & bad friendship habits, how to gently and kindly advocate for yourself when someone is not a good friend choice for you, and the importance of kindness in relationships.

Eric Reamer (2nd from the left in the back row) was invited as the team's guest speaker. This event was generously sponsored by Stick2Life (Phillip Aronoff, 3rd from the left in the back row), Riize Coffee Company, and Mainstream Boutique. For more information about how you or a local business can partner with the SEL Leadership team, please contact Ms. Winkelmann at jwinkelmann@dcsdk12.org.
