CERNĂUŢI, ROMANIA (TODAY: CHERNIVTSI, UKRAINE), MAY 1930
A Romanian Jewish woman, Lotte Gottfried (far left), attends a social gathering at the home of a non-Jewish family. She was escorted to the party by an old family friend, Dr. Brilliant (standing third from the right). Brilliant became a Nazi supporter after a trip to Berlin in 1938 and abruptly terminated his long standing friendship with the Gottfrieds.
