Dear CIMS Athletes,
Welcome to the 2024-25 Co-Ed Track & Field Season!
The season starts on Monday, April 7th and will conclude with the District Meet on Friday, May 9th (which is by invitation only).
Practices will be held after school, Mondays-Thursdays, from 3:20-4:45 pm and Fridays until 4:15 pm.
Please be picked up from practice no later than 4:50 on Mondays-Thursdays and 4:20 on Fridays.
IF WE HAVE INCLEMENT WEATHER, PRACTICES WILL BE MOVED INDOORS AND WILL END AT 4:15 PM.
If meets are cancelled on the day they are scheduled to occur, we will NOT have practice that day.
Boys compete against boys, girls compete against girls, and we have an 8th grade division and a 6th/7th grade division. Our 6th graders *do* compete against 7th graders because some middle schools in Douglas County have 6th grade at the elementary level and only house 7th and 8th graders. Don't let that deter you, though!
Event options include:
Sprints & Relays (100m, 200m, 400m, Medley)
Distance (800m & 1600m)
Discus
Shot Put
High Jump
Long Jump
Triple Jump
It’s ok if you’ve never tried these events before - that’s what middle school track provides: opportunities to try something new! We would love to have you join us with your completed physical and registration forms. Also, we understand what it means to be a multi-sport athlete and will work with you if you have a scheduling conflict with another activity. Just communicate with us; we are flexible!
Please join the "Remind" texting app by your grade level or as a Parent. PLEASE ONLY JOIN ONE CLASS! If you are the parent of athletes in multiple grades, please join the 7th & 8th Grade Parent group TEXT THE FOLLOWING TO 81010 (UPDATED 3/31/25):

7th grade STUDENT code is @dgk32b
8th grade STUDENT code is @b97abfb
PARENT code for 6th Grade is @7aa2f9

This is the primary way that we will send information out to everyone, including changes in practice times, meets, etc. so it is important that you join. If you need assistance, please see the short video near the bottom of this page for instructions.
Spikes are NOT REQUIRED for running events, however, you are welcome to use them.
We hope we can count on you!

SEASON MEETS: There is NO TRANSPORTATION TO OR FROM ANY MEETS! PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY! Arrive to the meets as soon as possible after school (you do not need to leave school early as the coaches are all teachers who still have to finish their day as well). Please arrive in your uniform (either your jersey or your red Cimarron T-shirt, athletic shorts or pants, and tennis shoes). Warm up on your own or with some friends and then get to any FIELD EVENTS that you are signed up for. Once the TRACK EVENTS begin, listen carefully to the announcer so you know when and where to go for your running events (if you have any). They will announce "FIRST CALL," "SECOND CALL," and "LAST CALL" for all track events. If you haven't checked in with the coach that is running that event by that time, you will not be able to run in that event. Go to your field events as you are able to; check in with the coach that is running that event so they know you are present and if you need to leave that event to run a track event, check out with them as well.
Only the top 2 qualifiers in each event will attend the District Meet on May 9th. This is based on the best overall times, jumps, etc. in both divisions (7th and 8th) and genders and can change from meet to meet throughout the season as athletes improve times, jumps, etc. Athletes will see an updated list of who is currently qualifying for Districts after each meet for which we get results for them (unfortunately, there may be meets for which a plunger for a race time didn't work, there was an error in recording a height or a distance, etc.). Athletes will be notified after our final regular season meet about who qualified for an event. Athletes can qualify for up to 4 events; if they qualify for more, they will choose the ones in which they would like to compete and the next person to qualify will be asked to compete. Athletes (and their parents) participating in Districts will join an additional Remind group so that we are not bombarding non-qualifiers with information.
