"Failure doesn't mean Game Over; it means Try Again with experience!"
Today's students are digital natives, and scholastic esports is an exciting way to channel their passion for gaming into a powerful educational experience. More than just playing video games, our esports program combines gaming with learning, creating an engaging environment where students develop crucial 21st-century skills. From boosting attendance and fostering incredible teamwork to sharpening strategic thinking and promoting digital citizenship, esports provides a unique platform for students to collaborate and grow. It's a fantastic way for schools to build a more inclusive community and help students cultivate the communication, problem-solving, and tech-savvy skills that are essential for future success in a world increasingly driven by technology!
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The Esports class is an opportunity for students to use gaming concepts and Esports competitions as tools for learning. Students will utilize hands-on experiences with Esports to learn academic skills while exploring a variety of career pathways available in the growing Esports market. This course will provide opportunities for ALL students to use Esports as a platform to acquire critical communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills needed to thrive in work and life.
Device Requirements:
The classroom has a limited number of Nintendo Switch gaming consoles for all students to share during Purposeful Play times in class. We also have several games (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon 3) available on those devices that will meet all the requirements for the class. However, students may bring a personal Nintendo Switch console, if preferred, to lighten the classroom sharing burden, track their individual progress, or experience games the school does not currently have available. Please contact Ms. Abou-Shahla at jaboushahla@dcsdk12.org if you have any questions.
As Esports is hosted in a fully functioning computer lab, no additional technology is required in the classroom. Students are encouraged to have access to a personal/family device at home to continue or complete any unfinished assignments, as the majority of the content is delivered and managed digitally.
