LITERACY
We will be using a literacy program called Wonders for the second year. Wonders is an evidence-based K–5 ELA program that empowers students to take an active role in learning and exploration. Wonders is grounded in the Science of Reading and is clear about what matters in early literacy instruction: phonological awareness, phonics and word recognition, fluency, vocabulary and oral language comprehension, and text comprehension. In addition to Wonders, your students will get to dive into some novel studies including Holes, Love that Dog, and possibly City of Ember. We will see where the adventures take us! ***See spelling lists under the resources tab!
MATH
EnVision Math is a comprehensive math curriculum providing focus, coherence, and rigor of the Common Core State Standards. Project-based learning, visual learning strategies, and extensive customization options empower every teacher and student. Problem-based learning drives students to engage in productive struggle. Tiered activities, learning centers, flexible grouping, and technology help accommodate learning styles and readiness. The most emphasized new math skills in fourth grade will be division and fractions.
SCIENCE
STEMscopes provides digital resources, supplemental print materials, and hands-on exploration kits that drive engagement and academic growth. The 4th grade Science units include organism structures and behavior (plants and animals), the Earth’s surface and resources, energy, and wave energy.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Our focus will be on the history, geography, economics, and government of Colorado. Social Studies will be all about COLORADO!
