1. Be Ready! Please come to class prepared and ready to engage the material. This class is interactive; participation is vital to the classroom environment AND TO YOUR GRADE. You will lose participation points when you come without materials. I expect that you are prepared for group and class discussion and activities. Learn to have all materials out at the beginning of class without being asked.

2. Be Respectful! Mutual respect for one another’s input is vital to class success. Differences of opinion are healthy and valid. Talking, even whispering to your group mates and friends when someone else has the floor is disrespectful and will result in loss of participation points. Respect the environment. Respect school rules (especially the electronics and dress code).

3. Be Responsible! Be here and meet your deadlines. Attendance is vital as a large portion of your grade is based on in-class work and homework that we start in-class. Expect your grade to suffer if your attendance is spotty. That day’s homework is covered at the top of each class, so get to class on time.

- Each semester you receive1 free homework pass worth 20 points to be used for any assignments other than a group project or final draft essay.

- One late homework pass per 6-week grading period that can be applied for full credit. The assignment must be turned in by the end of the grading period. Use these wisely!! These are not replaced if lost or stolen.

Essays and writing assignments should be almost error free and painless to read. Students need to become good editors and use resources available. I will not read essays with excessive errors and will return them without a score (which translates as a zero for you). You will be allowed to correct and resubmit within 1 week, but you will only earn half credit. Otherwise, you are always allowed to revise major essays for content to receive a higher score within one week upon return.

Electronics: You may use your cell phone to snap a picture of the lesson plan; then put it away. No other personal electronics during class time unless permission is granted by me. If used during class, they will be confiscated and the school protocol enforced.

Food and drink should never be a distraction to you or others. Break and lunch are the times given to eat, so do not expect to do so in my class. Snacking is allowed at my discretion. Water is good, but fill up bottles at break.

Plagiarizing, copying, having the same answer as another or lending your assignment to be copied is included here. Combining brain power to work on assignments together is acceptable; using someone else’s brain power and words is not.
