I did not go to college right out of high school because I could not choose what I wanted to do with my life. In that interim year, my mother urged me to do some community theater, which I did, playing an Irish maid with a killer accent, Cinderella, and co-directing The Wizard of Oz. I loved it; however, I didn’t think it would become a career, and I switched majors about 3 times when I did start college. Eventually though, I did decide to pursue my passion for theater arts and have never regretted it. Besides teaching and running a drama program, I continue to act and direct in community theater and do a little improv. I will be directing a musical this spring, a joint venture with DHS & CVCT.
I started teaching right out of college, taking a job at Whittell High School teaching drama, speech and English. I lived gorgeous Lake Tahoe for 18 years before moving down to the valley.
I took 8 years off to be a full-time mom, another job I loved. While chasing after 2 toddlers I joined a team to start a charter school, Sierra Crest Academy. That adventure consumed me for about 6 years.
When a friend told me that DHS had an opening for a drama teacher, I jumped at the opportunity because it is my true passion. I will stay here until I retire in a few years.
My son, David, works for a finance firm in San Francisco. He also does improv and Stand Up comedy on the side. My daughter, Megan, is a ski instructor and gymnastics coach, and my daughter, Tess, is an aviation major in college. She also is on the soccer team. They make me smile and laugh, and drive me crazy as well, as all kids tend to do. I recently lost my dog, Oreo, who was with us for almost 10 years. We still have Alaska, another black & white mutt.
I love to correct essays in my free time, of course. I especially love to go dancing with my friends and embarrass my children with my moves at prom. I also love watching movies, hosting game nights, going to breakfast or lunch with girlfriends, and reading. When I am not correcting work, I love to relax in front of a TV with a big bowl of popcorn and catch a great movie, an intriguing limited series, or a documentary. There is also a lot of great TV out there. I have pretty eclectic tastes: my current favs are The Handmaids Tale, This is Us, and The Marvelous Mrs. Masel.
