Safety
Details to be addressed in safety checks must include:
Electrical cords & outlets - not over crowded & wires are harnessed up
Extension cords - not daisy-chained & not left strung across the floor
Fire extinguisher location & use - know where they are in the hall & how to use
Fire drill procedures & evacuation policies - know where the exits are & the map to follow - also must be 50' away from building & out of the way from emergency vehicles
What the emergency codes stand for - copy of the codes are above the white board
White - weather emergency - evacuate to safe zone, sit on floor back to wall
Yellow - shelter in place - continue teaching, lock doors, no one leaves room, wait for code green
Orange - emergency evacuation - know the route to evacuate this room
Blue - medical emergency - lock down in classroom until released by code green
Red - emergency lockdown - no noise, cover windows, lock doors, wait for code green
Green - all clear
Equipment use - heat press, cutting tools, other heated items used for STEAM, must follow safety procedures & use safety equipment
Walkways & cabinet doors - walkways clear & doors always closed
Ink/toners for printers - MSDS sheets beside the printer, toner in printer
Leaving the room - must complete an e-hall pass
All students must complete the Safety Test with 100% accuracy
Closest Fire Extinguisher to our room: in hall between 407 & 408
Escape Route: Down stairs by Mrs. B. Yeater & out the door to guard rail.
Specific Equipment Safety issues:
Scissors and writing utensils - use for personal use only and do not run with equipment
Chairs - exercise caution when lifting chairs so not to hurt others around you
Standing on chairs - when helping to put certificates or signs on the wall, ALWAYS have another student to spot you while on the chair for safety. (Do not stand on counters)
