The pathway to biliteracy was created to place students on a trajectory that will help them earn the California State Seal of Biliteracy upon graduating from high school. In Dry Creek, students have three opportunities to earn awards demonstrating their proficiency as a bi-literate student. In Dry Creek, students can earn these awards in both 3rd, 5th, and 8th grade.

Third Grade
Show proficiency on the ELPAC
Complete 3 hours of community service in which the primary language is used.
Write a summary in both languages OR give an oral presentation in both languages. (focus is on the experience of learning a new language)
Fifth Grade
Show proficiency on the ELPAC
Complete 5 hours of community service in which the primary language is used.
Write a paper in both languages OR give an oral presentation in both languages. (focus is on something important in the student’s culture)
Eighth Grade
Show proficiency on the ELPAC
Complete 8 hours of community service in which the primary language is used.
Earn a score of proficient or higher on district-approved assessment in English Language Arts.
Write an essay in both languages identifying a career where bilingualism is important and explain why it is beneficial.
Make an oral presentation in both languages identifying a career where bilingualism is important and explain why it is beneficial.
