DCI's pillars are the programs, approaches and philosophies that DCI uses to achieve the school's overall mission.
In service of our mission and in response to stakeholder feedback, the foundational pillars have been updated to better reflect our current context and include one new pillar:
IB for All is DCI’s programmatic approach and a key mindset in how we serve students.
DCI fosters language learning at the core to support students’ ability to think and navigate a multilingual world.
DC International’s IB for All model is an instructional program that centers inquiry, depth of thinking, and the IB Learner Profile.
At DCI, “for All” means that all students deserve and benefit from the rigor and mindsets inherent in the IB program - we must give all students access, resources and support to be successful in the IB Program.
DCI provides students with the access, resources, and support to reach advanced language proficiency in a target language (Spanish, French, or Chinese) and build a deeper sense of the cultures of those languages.
DCI provides immersive experiences for students in their target languages / cultures to gain perspective and motivate, value, and improve language acquisition.
DCI believes that students should own their education.
DCI fosters belonging for our diverse students, families, and staff in service of creating an inclusive community that delivers on the promise of our mission.
DCI provides a supportive environment and diverse opportunities (courses, clubs, sports, and projects) for students to explore their interests, pursue excellence, and improve their community and themselves
DCI encourages student activism: to identify opportunities and challenges, taking tangible actions for positive change locally and globally
DCI provides students opportunities to develop critical thinking and advocacy skills through classroom and extracurricular inquiry and discussion
DCI acts to maintain a diverse student, family, and staff community that is reflective of the District’s racial, ethnic, cultural, socio-economic, and learning need demographics
DCI celebrates the individual and collective stories of our students, families, and staff paying particular attention to our language tracks and to communities facing current and / or historic oppression in our society
DCI recognizes the impact that systemic oppression has on our society, organization, and community and uses an anti-racist / anti-bias lens and restorative approach to address root cause issues and ensure continuous progress towards justice
DCI develops cultural awareness and understanding across student and staff sub-groups, as well as families, as a path to connection, collaboration, and social justice
